Excerpts from the Davison McDowell papers, 1811-1842, 1954.

Typewritten, annotated transcript of journal entries and miscellaneous items pertaining to Davison McDowell and his family and plantations. Journal entries (1811-1841) concern personal and family matters, slaves, the planting and harvesting of plantation crops (rice, wheat, fruit trees, etc.), an attempted insurrection by slaves, the weather, outbreaks of measles and dysentery on the plantation, and other matters. Papers also include accounts for plantation and family expenses and a plat (1840) of McDowell's lands.
